Conical Strainers installed in housing is generally  used on suction side & named as suction strainers also. Low pressure drop, compacted size, tough design and ease of maintenance are some special features of these type strainers.

Conical strainer protects fluid and gas handling equipment during the commissioning and the start up periods of plant. This type are for temporary use and thrown away after initial cleaning of the system . The down side to a conical strainer is they are fitted between two flanges, therefore requiring an accessible section of pipe.

The temporary type strainers are available in carbon steel, stainless steel and other alloys. Screens available are perforated, mesh, or mesh lined to meet specific media requirements.
